CHRISTIANLEPERINO

Leperino’s artistic journey began with him dedicatedly researching the human body. Since then, the artist (born in 1979 in Naples) has been spending the last few years concentrating on how to portray metropolises as he asks questions about the relationship between a city’s space and the existential lives of its inhabitants.

In this perspective, Leperino realizes the artistic installations Tactus Intimus (Musei Universitari di Palazzo Poggi, Art First, Arte Fiera Bologna, 2009), Hoc est enim corpus meum (Museo Universitario dell’Opera Suor Orsola Benincasa, Naples, 2009), and Human Revolution (Real Museo Mineralogico dell’Università degli Studi Federico II, Napoli, 2009).

In his most recent works there is a recurring theme of an urban landscape intertwined with a reflection on time and memory of places. For example, his exhibited works such as Cityscape/12 (at the 54th International Art Exhibition Biennale di Venezia, Padiglione Italia, Tese di San Cristoforo, 2011), Human Escape (at MAC-Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói, Rio Janeiro, 2010) and Cityscape, a permanent installation at the railway station in Mergellina, Naples.

In 2012, the Educational Service of the Department of Archaeology for Naples and Pompeii invited him to exhibit at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The exhibition, Landscapes of Memory, consists of two site-specific installations, a large painting (600 x 1000 cm) in the Farnese Bull Room, and an environmental installation in the Exhibition Space.

In 2013 he exhibited a new series of paintings, the Districts, and three sculptures in plaster, Human Blocks,in a solo show at the Academy of Moscow and at the Academy of St. Petersburg.

In 2014 Leperino exhibited Facies, a series of drawings, at the Italian Culture Institute in Tokyo and his work The other_myself became part of the permanent collection of the museum MADRE in Naples.

He is Professor in “Technology of materials” at the School of Sculpture – Academy of Fine Art in Naples.
